Go on any electronic supplier and search for Serial to parallel chips. Micrel makes a version that can source as well as sink.

Guess it depends on what substitution you need... just a drop-in? Is it 5V? Then the HCT or AHCT should be fine.

Generally, I think, the AHC series (NOT AHCT) are pretty much drop-in compatible, and faster.
