'Holographic' Projection

Collection of software for projecting 'holograms' onto a reflective prism using a computer monitor.

Similar projects worth following

I've seen a lot of tutorials online about how to make a phone sized reflective prism for projecting 'holograms' (not technically a hologram, but creates the illusion of one). However, they were too small to be very interesting, and I couldn't find any software to render a object properly. As a result, I created a 4-sided reflective prism from 8"x10" lexan sheets, and wrote software to render an object in the proper perspectives.

  • 1 × Lexan Sheet Size of prism depends on sheet size.
  • 1 × Adhesive Alternatively, the Lexan can be bent to shape. However, I have not tried this yet.

I recently presented three reflective prisms a the Rochester Mini Maker Faire. It was great to see people of all ages interested in this project. I uploaded a few new files for 3D printing a base to hold the sides of a prism together. In addition, I added a link to a web version of the demos shown at the Faire.

Just made an interactive rotational shooter game for the reflective prism as part of a 24 hour game jam. The current build is in the files section of the project.

  • Prism Dimension Calculator and More Lexan

I've added a prism dimension calculator to my portfolio website. The calculator takes in the aspect ratio of a sheet and produces a template for cutting prism sides. I've also put in an order for a larger Lexan sheet. That way I can experiment with alternative ways of constructing the prism, such as bending the sheet or 3D printed fittings. This will be a big improvement over the hot glue and masking tape that holds my current prototype together.
