Capacitive Flex Sensors

The flex sensors have been designed as finely spaced metal contacts on the flexible substrate.

On the right hand side of the PCB design, there are two sensors that can be cut off the main  and attached to flexing parts (e.g. fingers) .

When the sensor is bent, the metal contacts get closer together (pr further apart depending on bend direction) and the capacitance will change.

The micro-controller chosen for this PCB has built in peripherals for measuring changes in capacitance. These are usually used for touch sensing.
