Room Temperature Cup Holder

Cup Holder to Keep Your Beer (or Other Beverage) at Room Temperature

Similar projects worth following
This useless cup holder will keep your beer or other beverage at room temperature by either heating or cooling it. I know, it doesn't sound very useless... who doesn't enjoy a luke warm beer on a hot day or a tepid coffee after shoveling your car out of the snow!!

The temperature is monitored via an IR thermometer and an Arduino Uno. A dual H-Bridge paired with a Peltier heater/cooler heats or cools your drink until it reaches room temperature.

The MLX90614 is a great module for non-contact temperature sensing and I used the Arduino UNO because I had some sitting around.

I didn't record a video of it working because it would be literally the most boring video watching a cold beer warm up to room temperature. The Useless Machine does its job though and raises the temperature of the beer much faster than ambient!

Attach Thermal Adhesive to Peltier and Attach Cup Holder

Apply 2 pieces of adhesive tape to the Peltier heater/cooler, remove the blue plastic from the adhesive and attach the cup holder.  Make sure you get it centered the first time as the adhesive is very strong and the Peltier units are fairly fragile!
