Hiking Pole Yagi Antenna

Reduce weight and build a Yagi antenna using your hiking pole and Arrow Antenna elements

This is an antenna build for those radio operators who like to reduce weight while operating VHF radio using a Yagi antenna.

I created three 3D printed mounts that fit on a standard aluminum hiking pole. Using Arrow antenna elements (or other elements provided by the operator), a simple lightweight Yagi antenna can be created for back country VHF antenna use. Considering the operator will already have the hiking pole with them, the only additional weight is the elements.
3D printed mounts= 0.4 oz; Arrow antenna elements= 5.4 oz.


Note:  The diameter sizing for each mount was based off my pair of Leki hiking poles.

For reference:

Top Mount measured = 16mm

Middle Mount  measured= 14mm measured

Bottom Mount  measured= 12mm

    Step 1

    Download the 3D Mount Files and print out the mounts on a 3D printer.

    Step 2

    Take your hiking pole and extend each section till it is fully extended. Mark each top section.

    Step 3

    Using the arrow antenna boom as a template, mark three spots for the top, middle and bottom mount locations on your hiking pole with a Sharpie marker.
