I've been obsessed with virtual pets since I was a kid, and I always wanted one I could just put on my desk and not have to worry about taking care of, so I made one!
As of right now, it has somewhere in the ballpark of 160 monsters, using both Tamagotchi and Digimon V-pet evolution lines.
I tried to time it out so that you could see a monster grow from Egg through it's final stage in about a week. Every monster has a pre-determined evolution possibility tree, which they grow through at random.
The code includes sequences for random events. Currently, that includes pooping (otherwise it wouldn't be a true Tamagotchi) and a visitor event, where a random monster comes over to visit.
The iteration I have right now is teensy-based. I wanted it to be as small as possible, but also needed a large amount of memory to handle all of the sprites, which are stored as straightforward byte-arrays.
The final device has a 3D-printed shell that I designed in Fusion, and pain
Nice work, I hope when the time have come with the AI for the digimon to be close to the real thing, you make a prototype for the D.A.I. (Digimon Artificial Intelligence). Along with the different kinds of digivices with built in features that can go along with AR and VR. If you want me to make some digimon designs on paper, let me know. Okay?
