The Alexa dash wand was made to replace the dash button, and is packed with hardware. Best of all, it is available for very cheap on ebay. Sadly, there has not been a lot of effort to hack it, until now.
First of all, I apologize for not working on this, I got distracted by other projects.
I did some research and have discovered the ch341a, which is a cheap programmer, that combined with a clip can be used for solderless dumping of an spi flash chip. Sadly, I by mistake purchased and used one without the required 1.8v adapter needed for the flash included on the alexa dash wand, I suspect I fried the chip.
I was wondering if someone else could try the dumping process and share the file with the community, I could help that person through it, but I do not feel like going through the process of ordering the new parts right now.
Thank you for reading, and again, sorry for the delay and lack of work.
In normal use, the Dash Wand starts recording on button press (no wake word), and then sends the audio to amazon's server, which returns Alexa's response to the user's query. Also, the Dash Wand can be used as a barcode scanner, though this is limited, as it only adds things to your Amazon shopping cart.
There have been a few attempts to hack the wand to use it for alternative uses, but nothing really succeeded.
What I will attempt to do is dump the firmware, and search for an opening that way. This does not seem like it was done yet.
I was able to dump the Micron M25Q128A flash memory from my old Amazon Dash Wand, been holding onto it for years with hopes that someone could get it working to some degree, goal would be to dump barcode data to home assistant for shopping list additions. What's the best way to send you the firmware dump/are you still interested in this project?
