ANAVI Fume Extractor is a smart, open source, solder smoke absorber. It is powered by a Wi-Fi development board with an ESP8266, an 80 mm fan, and a replaceable filter. ANAVI Fume Extractor has dedicated slots for a mini OLED I²C display and a MQ-135 gas sensor module, as well as slots for up to three additional I²C sensor modules for measuring temperature, humidity, light, and barometric pressure. Furthermore, there are UART pins for easy flashing of custom firmware and an extra GPIO for connecting external peripherals.

The default open source firmware is an Arduino sketch. It allows you to connect ANAVI Fume Extractor to your Wi-Fi network to gather data from various sensors and control it remotely from smartphone, tablet or personal computer. Through the lightweight messaging protocol MQTT and the Home Assistant conventions for MQTT Sensor and MQTT Switch, ANAVI Fume Extractor  works with popular open source home automation and IoT platforms such as Home Assistant, OpenHAB, and ioBroker. The firmware also supports Home Assistant automatic discovery over MQTT.

ANAVI Fume extractor is entirely open source. The project combines open source hardware with free and open source software. It has been certified by the Open Source Hardware Association under UID BG000060. Only free and open source software tools are used to design it! KiCad for the printed circuit board (PCB), OpenSCAD and Inkscape for the acrylic enclosures. All the applications run on GNU/Linux distributions and have been used on Ubuntu  20.04 LTS.
