Wild Card- UVC Light Credit Card Machine Sanitizer

Automatic UV Sanitation Between Customers, That Touch The Highest Risk Surfaces For Viruses and Germs In Every Store,

Similar projects worth following
A compact UV sanitizer that attaches to any credit card machine terminal to sanitize the surfaces between customer use. Pictured is the third revision and the one I believe we will stick with. This is an absolute must for any business opening up right now with the Covid-19 pandemic.

The body of the device is 3D printed and then coated with a rubberized coating so that it blends together with the machine so it appears to belong there. This reduces stigma that there is some kind of device skimming information.

This is pictures of my actual light on a credit card machine I bought on ebay.

i. Concept- Is the project creative, original, functional, and pushing boundaries? Does the project effectively address the selected challenge?

WILDCARD - The world needs this device, I have never seen one , but without a doubt Covid-19 and other diseases transfer by touch on surfaces we come in contact with. This device solves this issue on every credit card machine using it.

ii. Design- Is there a depth of design detail available (like a system design, CAD models, project test methods, etc.)? Is there base-level planning for the functionality (e.g., functional block diagram, list of specifications and descriptions of how they will be met, etc.)? How user-friendly is the design?

YES! I have pictures and screen shots of the whole process. If I make it to the finals I will post the file for printing as well as a stl.

iii. Production- Is the project realistically reproducible (taking into consideration necessary materials, skills, and production processes)? Are the manufacturing processes detailed? Are those processes realistic for scalability?

YES, it can be printed, but the parts can be split into two halves and screw holes so this can be cast from a mold. It realistically could be a product that every business could install

iv. Benchmark- How well is the project impact and viability demonstrated? Are estimated costs realistic? How well does the project improve upon other currently available solutions?

The parts are minimal, an AC adapter, DC to DC converter to get the correct voltage, a 470um capacitor, UVC 3.5 watt bulb and plastic material for the body

v. Communication- How thoroughly have the Final Round requirements been completed? How well documented is the project? How “open” is the design?

Introducing the Fire Fly UVC Light Credit Card Terminal Sanitizer

It is currently our goal to provide real world solutions built into products we can get into individuals hands.

The Problem-

In my daily supply runs I realized on of the most utilized surfaces that nearly everyone in a store touches is the credit card terminal, it may be as simple as agreeing to the amount charged or entering your pin. In either of these cases these pads could be touch dozens or even hundreds of times a day.  With the upcoming opening of states businesses, microbial control of contagions is a paramount issue that we are addressing.

The Solution-

We are currently on our 4th design revision of a add on type of device that sanitizes the Keypad and Touch Screen of every Credit Card Terminal between customers. Really if you think about the solution and climate of business today this is a non negotiable consumer protection solution. The current revision  houses a single Star Lighting Industries 3.5 watt self ballasting UVC Quartz bulb with NO ozone production. The eye shield is angled as such that 97 percent of the light only hits the surface of the terminal. The matt black surface prevents the majority of any UV being reflected back and a simple spray on matt coating further supports this before installation of the light. The Bulb is easy to unscrew to show any customer there are no hidden electronics or cameras to attempt stealing their pin information in the event a customer is concerned with the new appearance of credit card machine glow sanitizer. The power wire is ran to a completely separate psu box that brings 110v down to usable 14-16 volts for the UVC emitter.

Build:

Fourth Version update-

The newest version is a one piece 6 hour print at .1mm in black PLA. Custom supports are created that can be pulled with pliers as one piece that also is removable from the threads the tub screws into. There is a strain relief on the far left that the power wire is fed through and secured in place with heat shrink tubing.

- unibody PLA 3d printed

- 3.5 watt UV emitter

- 12 step up usb adjustable power supply

- 3a 12v wall power supply

- 3d double sided tape

Actual 3d files / stls will not be...

Agree, really good project! I love it when they improve the processes for working with credit cards. But I like to work not only with credit cards, for example, when I choose a https://gamblizard.ca/best-canadian-online-casinos/best-payout-casino/ gambling service here, I look for different payment and withdrawal options. I'm especially interested in payouts to my account without restrictions, and there is a lot of choice there!

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but could this be used to sanitize the buttons on the keyboard as well? Maybe automatically santize after every usage or based  on a small button on the device somewhere?

yes absolutely, when you get really small the only option is an LED source and then testing is needed to make sure you bought an LED that is effective because fraud in advertising and specs for UV LEDs is an enourmous issue at the moment.

most credit card machines do not have tap and pay features and the larger majority of people do not use that feature either even if it were avail. Especially elderly that are the most venerable. Sanitation between every customer is the most effective way to prevent spread of germs.

Pretty much everybody here uses tap to pay and C-19 just accelerated the trend.

Do you not have tap and pay, or pay by NFC where you are?
