This little project was originally made to do a quick test of a used VFD display. It was meant to quickly check if it was still working.
Its only purpose is therefore to display something on the display (a Chineese text at present).
This is done with a small code running on an Arduino Uno. The code is really not well written (quick and dirty adaptation of a small piece of code sent by the vendor, supposed to work on STM32) and uses the bit-banging technique to send a still image to the screen. With this approach, the microcontroller uses most of its processing power for this sole purpose. It would be difficult to do anything more useful with such a software architecture and a small processor. A more powerful microcontroller might be able to drive the display for some useful purpose. Anyway, as we will see, this kind of simple display requires regular refreshing (no display memory).
