Since this log, we have found out that we need HTML code to import into the website, so we wrote HTML code that did the same thing as the python code. This worked! After that we removed all unnecessary pages from our website and refined it to a final working website that alows you to speak into it and it will turn whatever you say into text, then the braille keyboard will pick that up and show it in braille correctly if someone says a long sentience, so that it doesn't show on the smaller display of the keyboard, than you can navigate the text using the arrow keys. We also made a project board for our project presentation

This is the front page of our website, we used a website builder to create it, We are hoping to be able to import our code (once we finish writing our code) and also create a page of our website that can contain the necessary UI for our code to work and will resemble our website layout. The one problem we have is that the website builder we used will not let us customize the website and we are kind of stuck with what we have now, which doesn't help us in any way. We will most likely continue by creating another website possibly using a different service, which will resemble our desired website layout. Our coding process has also been somewhat difficult, we are trying to find a working speech to text API and right now, our code doesn't work.

  • (5/15) Preparing to setup website

    balsleymj04/26/2023 at 18:23 0 comments

We began by downloading a application that would allow us to use python(visual studio), we will need this because we will eventually get a AIP / code of a speech to text algorithm.  We will use the python console to run the code and make sure it works how it is intended, if It does we will most likely use it on the website.

For now we have not started working on the website, we tried a few ways to get a website, but since they all cost money and we are inexperienced, we gave up, but our teacher told us that he will help us setup the website, so we pushed that back until we could get working speech recognition code.

This picture displays us using Visual studio to test our speech to text code.

  • (5/8) Website layout

In this photo we have a layout for our website. we are planning for the website to take in audio, use code to translate it into text, then the braille keyboard will translate it automatically into braille. The website wont be directly connected to braille, all that will be done by the keyboard. In order to ensure that long sentences show on the keyboard's display, the user can change to automatically or manually move through the text one word at a time at a set (controllable)  speed. We will also have other settings such as scrolling using your cursor or displaying one word at a time, as well as enabling push to talk or the user just typing what they want to say. This website is a more refined way for someone who can see to type and or communicate to someone who is deaf and blind, and requires a braille display / keyboard. We have started righting code in python but we do not have the website started yet.

  • (4/24) Downloading Visual studio

In this photo we download Windows visual studio for testing out different speech to text code.

For a while we contemplated using a app or a website, we looked around for ways to create an app, but found nothing. We eventually decided to use a website. we were taught a little bit of python so we are hoping we can use python to help us wright the website. At this time we used began trying to get access to google speech to text API so at this time we had no code. Kristian worked on the code while we helped him download visual studio

  • 4/17 We have a braille keyboard

    balsleymj04/17/2023 at 18:12 1 comment

We were given this braille display / keyboard. It will allow a blind and deaf person to read the screen of whatever computer is plugged into it. We are trying to allow a person who can see the computer to be able to communicate using their voice to the blind and deaf person. This will be done by using a speech to text program on a website to turn speech into text that can be translated into braille by the keyboard.

Begin by obtaining a braille keyboard, This is a vital step for translating the text on the website into braille, we rented one for the sake of this project

  • 2
    Setup a website

either use a pre-existing speech to text website, use a website creator to create a blank website

  • 3
