Biosphere Solar’s mission is to establish open-source, circular design standards throughout the solar industry. The solar development kit [Dev Kit] is a modular micro solar panel designed following circular design principles, striving for fairness. Repairable, customizable, and hackable, the dev kit is the first of its kind.

The purpose of the Dev Kit is to allow people to connect with solar technology through building and maintaining their own energy-producing device. Its modularity allows for personalization, and users are encouraged to share the documentation of their modifications and hacks The dev kit is designed to be self-assembled following an instruction manual. Disassembly and reassembly are possible as a result of an edge-sealing technique which omits the need for industry-standard EVA lamination (the ‘glue’ in conventional solar panels used to sandwich all layers of

The development of this solar Dev Kit is in its final stages: we are now finalising the STL files, instruction manual, and setting up a more streamline way of producing the kits to be able to ship them widely. Of course, we will be providing clear instructions and components list ASAP so that you can make it yourself without needing to go through Biosphere Solar (the project behind this idea!) to get started on making your own solar panel.

In brief, you can already expect the following component to be necessary for making a dev kit:

  • (Soldered) solar cells
  • Dogbones
  • Backsheet (plexiglass)
  • Frontsheet (plexiglass)
  • Cellbed (ABS - 3D print files soon available!)
  • Screws
  • Insulating rubber (to prevent moisture ingress and protect the solar cells
  • Electronics (e.g. DC/DC converter, cables)

It seems like you're interested in exploring the Biosphere Solar Dev Kit. While I don't have specific information on a product or kit with that exact name as of my last knowledge update in January 2022, I can offer some general advice on getting started with solar development kits or projects. https://drain1.ca/Please note that you may need to refer to the specific documentation or resources provided with the Biosphere Solar Dev Kit for accurate and up-to-date information.

Biosphere Solar developed this as part of our mission to bring fair and circular standards to the solar industry and market. Massive contributors (without whom this would not have been possible) included Sam Boermans, Asli Demir, and Ian Lin.

We hope our solarpunk future inspires you!
