Smart Companion & Observational Utility Tech

Similar projects worth following
SCOUT (Smart Companion & Observational Utility Tech) is your AI-powered cyberdeck. A modular, wireless tech sidepack serving as a smart sentry & assistant, linking seamlessly to a wireless UI.

This is a project for a modular pi backpack that would connect wirelessly via a Peakdo wireless monitor. I knew this monitor was meant to be used to make cyber decks.

This can use any keyboard or hardware, but I also wanted to use a 70000mha battery to power the sbc.

With these items in mind I would also like the project to be modular, so if I decide to make changes I can simply swap out parts rather than print a large object.

Stretch goal is to add AI with an OAK-D camera or Voice assistant.

  • Day 4 Part 3 Testing possible Screen Handles

    Quoc Duong07/23/2023 at 03:18 0 comments

Trying out different designs for screen. Will need to add hinges to the bottom, but in order to use the joycon slots, the rail zones need to be clear, so they will need to protrude either behind or in front of the screen. I'm leaning toward behind, but we'll see. Excuse the coffee stained mouse pad.

  • Day 4: Part 2 Spray Painting and fitting

    Quoc Duong07/23/2023 at 02:38 0 comments

Spray painted the walls and corners. Lost a usb port cover under the deck, but should be fine. Put the screw insets into the corner pieces. Will need to buy more, and more screws. Realize the walls need to be taller to fit the battery, missing probably 12 mm to each wall.

  • Day 4: corners printed, starting walls Part 1

    Quoc Duong07/22/2023 at 15:23 0 comments

Finished printing the corners over night, now need to finish modeling the walls, and we'll set those to print. Might do a second log for the paint job.

  • Day 3: coding day

As I wait for my parts to print, I'm writing some code for the voice assistant. Just did a little outline of how I think it will go, but I haven't tested anything yet:
    https://github.com/potentiallyunwanted/SCOUT-voice-assistant

right now the idea is that it's always checking audio -> waits for it's named to be called "scout" (but can be anything)
takes human response -> sends to openai
openai -> elevenlabs for awsome british voice -> plays response

adding a conferencing that will attach via usb for audio and mic
    hopefully it all works out.

  • Prototyping Day 2

Printing out parts. They are looking good. My first batch, I made the holes for the screw insets too large, so I had to go back and fix those, and the second prints were perfect, but here's a picture with everything put together to get an idea of how it'll fit together. What are the screws on the front for? Aesthetics. Also I kind of want to paint this, but don't want to mess up the screw holes, probably should do the painting first, but really want to fit the pieces together. I have no self-discipline.

Originally wanted to do a cylinder back pack, but printed one out and it seemed wasteful, but would have looks really cool like Naruto.

I ultimately decided not to do this because of the time it would take and the amount of support required.

I pivoted to a rectangular design, which seemed cool, but didn't seem cyberpunk enough to me. Also it did not really meet my first goal of being modular, but this one I printed out to test, and it seemed to work well. I just used a dove tail design to connect the pieces.

after trying that version I'm currently working on a total redesign to become more modular.
