@agp.cooper commented that the construction quality on his unit was not very good, so here are some photos showing a few details of my machine for comparison.
Toshiba Stepper drivers. Note black aluminum heat sink underneath the PCB. The drivers are mounted in the PCB plane - leads straddle the PCB cutout edge- and are bolted to the heat sink.
Spindle is 1.5kW, water cooled. Spindle mounting brackets are machined from solid billet, Z slide brackets are 12mm plate, X slide brackets (vertical uprights) are 14mm plate. X cross member is 3.2mm thick extrusion with 2 right angles, plus the 2 sliders, lead screw, and dress panel. I measured spindle end play of 0.15 mm in X and Y, with 1-2kg of hand pressure.
