The computer was assembled with the following parts in the following order:

  1. Motherboard
  2. Microprocessor (placed into motherboard)
  3. Microprocessor fan (placed onto motherboard)
  4. RAM (inserted in DDR slots)
  5. Hard Disk Drive (connected to SATA port of motherboard)
  6. Power Supply (powers motherboard, microprocessor, and hard disk drive)
  7. Case (placed components inside & connected reset button & power button to motherboard)

Debian was the selected operating system for the computer.  It was installed with the following procedure:

  1. Load Debian Network Installer onto a USB drive
    1. Make drive bootable with ISO by formatting with Rufus
  2. Connect monitor, keyboard, ethernet, and USB drive
  3. Turning on the computer
    1. Boots from USB drive rather than the hard disk drive
  4. Install Debian with the installer
    1. Partition hard disk drive
    2. Set language and time zone
    3. Download binaries to hard disk drive
      1. Excluded the graphical user interface
      2. Included the SSH server
    4. Create users and passwords
  5. Turn off computer
  6. Remove monitor, keyboard, and USB drive
  7. Turn on computer

The end result is a Debian workstation that can be accessed via SSH
