Description

There's a lot of great material online covering how to convert an ATX power supply into an electronics lab power supply. These normally expect you to cut into the actual enclosure of the unit. This project takes a slightly different approach by using a female ATX adapter which allows you to plug in any PSU into the brick. If your PSU dies, you can just hook-up another one.

The colored banana jacks follow the ATX color conventions for voltages as follows:

- Orange: 3.3v
- Red: 5v
- Yellow: 12v
- White: -5v
- Blue: -12v
- Black/Green: ground

Nice project! How warm does the resistor get during use? If you're on the 5v line, it's only going to have to dissipate 2.5 watt, but that's still dumping into a closed plastic enclosure.

Wow, great idea. Wish I had done that instead of hacking apart my PSU's case. Does the breakout box include dummy load resistors?

Just updated the components list. I used a 10Ω 10W Resistor to put load on the green connection which is hooked up directly to the switch on the front.
