Digital Holga 120d

Convert a Holga Medium Format Camera to digital using a Raspberry Pi and Picam module

Similar projects worth following
This crams a Raspberry Pi model A into a Holga 120 case, and adds a hardware board to the GPIO which controls the shutter, has the option of an external trigger, mode selector and a flash trigger output. I've also added a filter ring to the case, so additional filters and lenses can be used with the Pi Camera - with the IR version this could lead to some creative photography options (not possible with a normal camera).

Plus it looks satisfyingly hipster too!

I used a slice of Pi board to build a simple control circuit for the Raspberry Pi, along with a python script which starts when the Pi is booted up. As well as the 3 input switches and 2 LED outputs the control board had space to add a real time clock module (I used Adafruit's since it was supported with a nice set of instructions). Photos taken are date stamped and can be downloaded when the camera is within range of WiFi.

Wow, this is pretty cool! Did you keep the stock holga plastic lens, or did you have to remove it? Can you post any pictures taken with the camera? I'm interested to see what kind of vignetting and blurring it gets.

I think I may end up getting distracted and building one of these. I was shooting on my Holga during the early Instagram days. These days I'm too lazy to have the film developed :-/

This doesn't use the Holga lens - instead opting for the Raspberry Pi Camera module's own lens instead. This still manages to produce a lot of random effects. I'm working on a version 2 which uses the much smaller Raspberry Pi A+ board and retains the Holga's lens - and which is non-destructive, you just swap out the back plate of the Holga for a digital one.
