Looking for Collaborators

A project log for Open Source Embroidery Machine

An easy to build embroidery machine, with open source design and software.

Anyone interested in collaboration on this project. I dont have enough time to do it all myself. I have access to a lot of the equipment to make prototypes but not the time to test and work on the design.

I would like to assemble a team of people and start making steady progress on the design.

Let me know if your interested.

Hi Josh,

I sent you a PM from io and I can help. I work with embroidery machines from Tajima and I know a lot about embroidery.

One suggestion I want to give you is to not "recreate the wheel" with the sewing machine part of the build. I suggest harvesting these parts from a working sewing machine and incorporating them into your build. So many issues with trying to design and build this from scratch. Because there are so many common replacement parts, sourcing the sewing machine parts should be really easy.

Also, DST is crap. Thread color is set at the machine and not in the file. So is offset and many other attributes. This is not a problem as I find thread color changes easier to do at the time to stitch out then trying to sync the needle numbers to thread colors in files (which could change prior to the file being sent to the emb machine).

let me know how I can help.

Oscar,

I am very happy to see your message. I will gladly help you as much as I can. You can join this projects and be able to post comments. I will try to add you after this message.

I have a lot of experience with cnc, and Jonathan knows a lot about embroidery machines. So we can definitely give you some advice. I really want to design and build a completely custom machine that is modular. So it can start with one needle and go up to having more than one. But we your work can help to develop some of those parts of the machine. We dont have to design it all at once.

Hello my name is Oscar & im interested in helping out with this project, my mother makes fireman equipment & im triyng to add a cnc type of build to help her with her work I just learned how much time goes into sewing & if I could incorparate a cnc/embroidery system into one of her machines it would help with production & accuracy, I just ordered some nema 23 stepper motors & TB6560 Stepper Motor Driver board V type & power supply, im waiting for them to be delivered to start working on the frame, Im trying to figure out if I replace her direct drice motor with a servo like Consew CSM-1001 Brushless Servo Motor 3/4HP w/ Needle Positioner (Synchronizer) Im thinking that could help with the needle position I have find out how that works, if there is a way to control that big servo , the needle position works by stepping back on the pedal to make the needle go to the raised position, im sure a servo could be attached to it & programed to activate when needed , if you have any advice it would be appreciated, mostly in the cnc & progammng part im just diving into the whole cnc arduino scene .
