A project log for The Kasei Initiative

Working to kick start the robot revolution. It is coming, and the Kasei Initiative will play an important role.

I attempted something similar to the lunchbox RasPi build I linked to earlier, but I only managed to waste a lot of time and materials (I used something similar to a cooler). The screen and the microcontroller could just barely fit together on the lid, but trying to get the HDMI cable and power cord in as well was a whole other story, and I ended up dislodging the supports for the HDMI port. Luckily none of the important connectors were broken, just the supports, and I was able to solder one back into place- I wasn't touching the other one, it was WAY too close to a capacitor for comfort, plus my hand holding the soldering iron was shaking pretty badly (no clue why, and don't worry, I don't intend on becoming a surgeon). The one support is, thankfully, strong enough.

New plan of attack: forget the portable version, code everything on a separate computer (I love Ubuntu, by the way) then transfer the files later. At least that way I'm less likely to break something and a coding fix will be easier on a regular computer.

One last thing; the "face" designs will be based off "chibi" designs in part to bring the creepiness factor down since it's not realistic, thus avoiding the Uncanny Valley (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/UncannyValley) and making the robot seem more friendly. I may provide an option to decide which face to go with, but I will only be working on one personality for this project to save time, and I figure it's better to go with one well-developed personality than a bunch of poorly-developed ones to choose from.

Thanks for reading, I appreciate the support!
