The laser disc player died, what a shock, so i picked up a new one from eBay since it sounded terminal. Luckily the disc wasn't damaged.

Got the new player pioneer 8000 and hooked it up no dice, talked to shaun@lasercon who very nicely wrote back to me on vacation, and he mentioned the settings for the baud rate for the player, its 4800,n,8,1 holding the display button down when switching it on brings up a menu where you can change the default 9600. So did that, and reset, still didn't work, went back in and the 9600 baud is back so obviously an internal battery has failed.

so i'll replace that battery from the old laser, then repair that laser disc player.

    neat!

back of the score board, some segments missing here too

the Lasercon board, i added some sponge behind it since it had a thin plastic bag on there, that silver electrolyic cap is off as well, its the 470 uF 16V min for the 5V line and its not connected, so i'll grab a new one of those too.

    Back up!

    rejoiced too soon..

U2 is the EPROM in question or maybe the 74LS244, i tried all the usual tricks of re-seating etc, not yet, maybe the cap. I shall return with more diagnostic tools and some 27C64's
