I discovered that you can create a midi device using an ESP32, and with the wemos d1 mini in particular you can have 8 PWM channels respond with audio output.
I realised you can potentially expand that back up to 16 channels by using a PCA9685 board. To be similar to an midi module of old like an Roland SC-55 for example (minus all the unique instruments)
On top of that you can potentially control 16 unique oscillators by using what are known as vactrols in the DIY synth community through PWM. Giving a crude but powerful implementation of control voltage.
My plan is to eventually connect this up to 16 unique oscillators based on 555 timers.
