Just to clarify this is a linear regulator. The u723 is not a pulse width controller.  And so a sizeable  heat sink will be required. With a 30volt source and  output voltage at a minimum there will be  288 watts to disipate. I don't has theram spec for 3055 to hand but would be surprised if it could manage that power even with a perfect heatsink
