1. One of the most important design criteria in constructing any stirling engine is the transfer of heat through the material that connects the cold portion to the hot portion. The cold and hot sections must be insulated from each other. Ideal conditions heat should only transfer through the working gas that is the air,nitrogen or helium. The amount of heat that will transfer through the gas is a factor in the thermal efficency of the engine.
